In his text, Equiano deals with Christianity by presenting the religion as a good religion that has been subjected to mockery by enslavers because the religion preaches kindness to all people, yet the enslavers who are Christians mercilessly torture and destroy lives in pursuit of material wealth (Elrod). He points out that according to Christian teachings and norms from God, enslavers are not supposed to continue in their trade. That is why he asks them sarcastically whether they learned what they are doing from their God; incontrovertibly bringing out the fact that the Christian God is not a violent or racist God who would support the enslavers in their actions. He quotes that Christianity teaches that a man should do to another what he would want to be done to him. Through this quote, he further presents Christianity as a religion that advocates for justice and fairness...
