One of the reasons why male-smoking school-aged children have a higher burden of stroke than the general population is because of low income. Current literature suggests a link between low-income and high incidence of stroke. The wealth inequality in Indonesia has been exacerbated by rapid economic growth and resulted in large inequalities in health care including stroke prevention and management. For instance, the study by Yamanie et al. (2023) determined that being of a low socioeconomic status heightened the risk of stroke incident and mortality. People without health insurance or money to pay for health care are less likely to be given a timely diagnosis of the chronic disease (Meador et al.). The second reason why male-smoking school-aged children have a higher burden of stroke than the general population is because of low education. Various studies have shown a relationship between a person’s education status and risk of stroke incident and mortality. For instance, the study by Che et al. (2020) determined that having low literacy levels significantly increased the risk of ischemic stroke and disability-adjusted life-years. Having low education levels is associated with negative stroke-related comprehensive outcomes.
