Before including ELLS in high-stakes tests, educators should make fair decisions regarding the right testing accommodations. Coltrane states that the high-stakes tests used for determining students' performance are often standardized and include the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (1). Students' scores from these tests assess their promotion to the next grade level. The tests might also dictate what curricular track the students might need to oblige to or graduate. The high-stake tests test the proficiency of Grade three to eight students in reading and math. Tested students might aim to reach higher academic levels since the high-stakes tests raise the learning standards (Coltrane 1). Because the high-stakes tests are administered in English, making it quite challenging to interpret the results.
