Q1: China-Canada Trade Relations with the arrest of Meng Wanzhou
History of the Arrest of Meng Wanzhou
Meng Wanzou is Ren Zengfei, a Chinese tech giant Huawei founder and a top business executive in the Chinese telecom giant. Meng, a permanent resident of Canada, was arrested by CBSA officers in December 2018 upon her arrival at Vancouver Airport for a 3 hours questioning session. Lu Shayne vehemently accused Canada of promoting US trade wars against China and racism (Van der Horst, Mischa p4). Lu Shayne went ahead to warn Canada of substantial repercussions if it excludes Huawei from supplying equipment for future 5G networks. The Chinese Foreign Ministry went ahead to ask the Canadian President to release Meng to ensure the bilateral trade deals with China fall on the right track.
