Lighting Direction, Range of Hues, and Symmetrical Proportion of Warm and Cool Colors

Coursework Instructions:

Question # 3 How can lighting direction diminish or accentuate the dimensionality of your artwork? Does your object require special illumination, such as an internal light source, fiber optics, or a video screen? How can light enhance the expressive content of your artwork? Can your object be redesigned to use light and shadow more effectively? If so, how?

Question # 4 Which will better communicate your ideas—a limited range of hues or a wide range of hues? Are all of the colors in your design similar in intensity? What would happen if you combined low-intensity colors with high-intensity colors? What is the proportion of warm and cool colors in your design — is it around 50/50, 70/30, 20/80? What would happen if these proportions were changed? What are the conceptual or symbolic implications of the colors you have chosen?
Question # 5 What strategies have you used to unify your composition? What gives your composition variety? Is the balance between unity and variety appropriate for the ideas you want to express? What would happen if your composition were constructed using a pattern or grid?

In line with this, my art would require a special kind of illumination which is composed of two external white lights that are projected at the painting in an angle that is symmetrical with one another. This would make sure that the certain depths and differences in colors would be emphasized as compared to only having a single light that would produce shadows. Nonetheless, the artwork could still be redesigned in a way that would make the light an essential part of it. Perhaps an internal lighting could be added and the colors be changed into something that is reflective in order to emphasized certain characteristics and provide a vivid contrast between the different parts of it.
* Question 4
My ideas would better be communicated with a wide range of hues rather than one with a low range. This kind of tonal contrast would make the artwork more vivid, despite the lack of any other ‘hook’ such as an internal lighting, fixture, or mechanism. By focusing on simply adjusting the tonal contrast of each part and adding the simple lighting that was discussed earlier, the audience would ...
