Introduction to Production Project 1 PURPOSE The purpose of this project is to find out how an existing theater, dance, ballet or opera company came into existence, how it is organized, and how it is staffed. METHOD Using the Internet, I want you to look for a web site for a theater, dance, ballet, or opera company. The web site needs to have information on the purpose or mission of the organization, the history of the organization, a list of productions, a staff list with job assignments. If there is not enough information, you will have to find another web site. You will need to be able to print the web pages that are relevant to your report to put in the report. If you cannot find a suitable website, a list of theater organizations that work well for the project can be found at http://www.lort.org/LORT_Member_Theatres.html REPORT Using the information found in the web pages I want you to tell me something about the organization: when it started, what kinds of performances it does, how many shows a year it does, what the organization’s mission is. Make some inferences as to the size of the operation (large, medium, small), how big the staff is, whether jobs are very specific or one person does many jobs, the things we talked about in class. Include this information in a summary report of about a page, accompanied by the relevant printed web pages. GRADING The project will be graded on neatness, organization, and overall content and thoroughness of the report. Spelling and grammar are important and will be factored in to your overall grade. Below is a breakdown of what I will be looking for and the points possible. Suitability of website to project 0-No website was chosen or did not contain enough information necessary for the project. 1-Website did not contain some of the information necessary for the project. 2-Website was totally suitable for the project. Inclusion of necessary information from website into report. 0-Most necessary information from the website was missing from the report. 1-Some necessary information from the website was missing from the report. 2-No necessary information from the website was missing from the report. Inferences drawn from information in website 0-Inferences drawn from information on the website were lacking or incorrect. 1-Inferences drawn from information on the website were mostly correct. 2-Inferences drawn from the website were totally correct. Organization and readability of report 0-Report was disorganized and/or unreadable. 1-Report was somewhat disorganized and/or unreadable. 2-Report was organized and readable. Alabama Shakespeare Festival (https://asf.net/)
Alabama Shakespeare Festival is one of the famous and largest Shakespeare festivals across the world based on attendance. The festival was founded in 1972 and held its first performance at the Anniston High School Auditorium. In 1980, Alabama Shakespeare Festival was recognized nationwide after innovatively presenting “Taming of the Shrew” comedy in New York. Consequently, in 1985, Alabama Shakespeare Festival moved to the Carolyn Blount Performance Theatre in Montgomery after Mr. and Mrs. Winton Blounts donated the Carolyn Blount Performance Centre worth $21.5 million. The Carolyn Blount Performance Centre is located on a 250 acre landscape park that also houses the Winton M. Blount Cultural Park. The performance centre was designed by Perry Pittman and Thomas Blount who were inspired by Andrea Palladio’s architectural ideas. The main theater hall comprises a festival stage that has 792 seats, an octagon theatre with 262 seats, two rehearsal halls, administrative offices, and prop shops.
Alabama Shakespeare Festival mission is “Anchored by the struggles, joy, and wonder that define the works of Shakespeare, we present plays, musicals, and family programs that speak to the richness of human experience and, often, to the uniqueness of our region—a place born of close family ties, at times torn by social strife, but always reaching for reconciliation and renewal.” Based on its mission, Alabama Shakespeare Festival engages in classics, contemporary plays, Shakespeare plays, musicals, and...
