Analysis of a Rock Art Painting

Coursework Instructions:

Assignment:
Create Your “Cave or Rock Art Painting” Discovered by a 22nd Century Archaeologist
This assignment has two parts: One - Creating the Artwork and Two - Writing about it.
Read Exploring Art Ch. 5 & the supplemental materials provided.
Also review Chapter 2: The Formal Elements of Art, especially line, shape, color, etc + from Ch. 4 –metaphor, symbols, iconography for use in this project
Create: Using either pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, pastels, or crayons draw a “cave or rock art painting” that represents either:
your “domestic life”, your school life, or your work life.
Use line, shape, color, & textures reminiscent of the cave painting you have seen in the text and supplemental sources. You might consider using brown shopping bags for that nice “rock wall” texture and color. Tear the brown grocery bag in an irregular shape with torn edges to make it looker rougher and more natural.
The imagery you use in your scene should have symbolic and/or metaphorical meanings for you. It should tell a story about some aspect of your life in the context that you chose to use. For example:
is your boss, university instructor, or an obnoxious uncle the “big, bad, beast”? Make sure and use hieratic scaling (as defined in the text) to add to the symbolic and iconographic story you are depicting.
You are in control of this scene, so the hieratic scaling can be done according to your preferences and connected to the aspects of your story.
4. Write: Analysis: Along with a scan or photograph of your cave imagery, you will provide a written analysis, pretending to be a 22nd century archaeologist who is uncovering this find for the first time. Include a written accompaniment for the image and address the imagery in third person.
I will give you the picture and the criteria in photo.
Update: Photos of relevant pages from chapter 2 and 4 in the additional files,
Representation of client's “domestic life”, school life, or work life can be made up

Through the painting, we can see that the artist captured essential elements related to his work life. There are diverse aspects presented and symbolize the standard of life at the time. As we can depict from this wall painting, the person captured uses a mobile device. There is also a computer (laptop) that is in from the person. On the other side, a pile of paper and set-off files can be seen. The color balancing throughout the painting is somewhat saturated, revealing the emphasis on the different elements presented.
