Understanding Feminism and its Applications to Reality
Understanding the intricacies of a theoretical paradigm is essential for anyone. It allows him to better understand how a particular point-of-view works and apply it, not only in his career, but also in the world he lives in. Accordingly, one of the most common principles that we hear today is Feminism. Generally, Feminism could be defined as the belief in the fundamental need for social, political, ideological, and economic equality between all sexes CITATION Burnd \l 1033 (Burkett, n.d.). However, due to complex and varied circumstances and belief in the feminist movement creating a single definition for the same has become more complex and challenging for everyone. This led to the creation of various types of feminist ideology such as Marxist Feminism, Liberal Feminism, and Eco-feminism, among others. In the succeeding sections of this article, I would like to focus on explaining some of the most common assumptions about the feminist movement and how we can practice this in the field of sports where inequality is most apparent.
Assumptions on the Feminist Movement
One of the most common assumptions about the feminist movement is that it aims to promote equality among all sexes. Although this concept of equality is what most definitions would seem to provide, the feminist movement really advocates the idea of equity. According to Social Change UK (2019), the main difference between equality and equity is that while the former believes in giving everyone the same treatment, benefits, and responsibilities, the latter provides everyone with what they need to have the same opportunities with one another. In other words, the latter recognizes the inherent differences between men, women, and other sexual classifications and adapts the support that they give for everyone to succeed.
