Strategic guidance contains strategic directions which provide orders, intent, recommendations, advice, and strategy from the president, the United States Secretary of Defense (SecDef), and the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff (CJCS) to the military to pursue national matters within constitutional and legal limitations. Thus, military planning relies on strategic guidance for directions to make decisions and to achieve set objectives in a dynamic environment.
The current Joint Strategic Planning System (JSPS) is adequate to support the relationship between strategic guidance and military planning.
