Border security is a major issue in today's world. Governments need to ensure the safety of their citizens and their national interests. The top three issues regarding border security are illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and terrorism. Each of these issues has its threats and risks and requires a different strategy for effective border security.
Illegal immigration is a major problem for border security. In the United States, it is estimated that over 11 million people live illegally. This can have serious economic, security, and social consequences. Illegal immigrants can be exploited and taken advantage of, posing a threat to national security. To effectively address this issue, border security must be improved (Haddal, 2009). The primary agency responsible for this is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS is responsible for overseeing the enforcement of immigration laws and ensuring that all proper procedures are followed. Furthermore, DHS is also responsible for protecting the borders of the United States and preventing illegal immigration.
Drug trafficking is another major issue that affects border security. Drug trafficking is a major source of revenue for organized crime and terrorist organizations. It is also a major threat to public safety and security. To effectively address this issue, border security must be improved and coordinated. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is the primary agency responsible for this. The DEA is responsible for detecting, disrupting, and dismantling drug trafficking networks and preventing drugs from entering the United States. Additionally, the DEA works with other federal agencies, such as the Department of Homeland Security, to improve border security and prevent drugs from entering the country.
