This image depicts Freud's theory of psychoanalysis. The theory of psychoanalysis is the idea that the unconscious mind is what drive's human behaviors. In this depiction it shows a therapist psychoanalyzing the grim reaper to explore the thought process that people are trying to cheat death. Freud would often utilize psychoanalysis with his clients by having them describe experiences they had as a child or big emotional events throughout their life. Freud could possibly have explained this depiction after listening to him discuss his past as the proof that something traumatic occurred during the grim reaper's developmental years such as parental abandonment or being cheated on by a significant other. Following the theory of psychoanalysis the grim reaper feeling like everyone is trying to cheat him and being highly suspicious and mistrusting would then make complete sense.

Sigmund Freuds work of the psychodynamic approach describes unconscious psychological processes such as wants and anxieties that we are not entirely aware of. The psychodynamic theory explains that behavior is influenced by inner psychological forces, and abnormalities can be caused by an imbalance that motivates the behavior in question. Freud constructed a model of the mind that is made up of three areas: conscious, preconscious and unconscious. The preconscious retains prospective understanding. The conscious concentrates on present concepts and feelings. By focusing on ones attentions, consciousness can be transferred into material form. The theory of the unconscious is a challenged topic, with certain academics presenting strong proof whereas others are suggesting that unconsciousness thinking can happen without a Freudian storehouse of suppressed impulses.
