Use the Persuasive Essay Outline on the next page to outline your persuasive essay by completing the following:

1)      Use the feedback you received from your instructor to revise your thesis statement.

a)      Write your thesis as a complete sentence (as you would in your essay) in the “Thesis Sentence” section under the Introductory Paragraph heading in the outline below.

2)      Create a topic sentence for each of the three paragraphs that comprise the body of your essay.

a)      Record the topic sentences in each of the “Topic Sentence” sections under the “Support for Thesis” headings in the outline below.

b)      Your topic sentences should be persuasive in nature and support your thesis.

3)      Write at least three details for each topic sentence.

a)      These details should provide support for the topic sentence.

b)      Remember to include at least one in-text citation for each supporting paragraph.

c)      Paraphrasing is preferred, use direct quotes minimally.

4)      Write a concluding sentence under the “Conclusion” heading in the outline below.

a)      Your concluding sentence should be your thesis restated in different words.

Introductory Paragraph:
Hook: Marijuana is considered a harmful drug that can bring negative impacts on the user’s body. Such raises questions as to whether the drug can be used for medicinal purposes.
Background and contextual information:
Scientists have been doing a lot of research to prove that marijuana has many health benefits. Various studies indicate that the drug has been previously used for health purposes in the user’s body. Research is underway to come up with concrete evidence showing that marijuana can be used to manufacture medication that has minimal side effects to the user. People have been using the drug and claim that it gave them various health benefits such as relieving pain.
Thesis Sentence:
Marijuana is considered a harmful drug that can negatively impact the user’s body. Still, it has medicinal benefits such as relieving pain, treating anxiety and depression, and helping in blood sugar control in diabetic patients.
Supporting paragraph 1 (Subtopic 1)
Persuasive Topic Sentence (include position and align with the first subtopic):
Marijuana has health benefits in the body as relieving pain.
Detail A: whenever the body has been injured, it produces a certain neurotransmitter that interacts with cannabinoids to cure the inflammation causing the pain. It is the same cannabinoids that are present in marijuana (Aggarwal et al., 2018). Therefore, this enables the drug to relieve pain.
Detail B: people have been using marijuana to reduce pain because it has no side effects. An example is cancer patients who have been consuming marijuana products to relieve the pain associated with chemotherapy. People also use the drug to manage the pain associated with migraines.
Detail C: marijuana has become an alternative to pharmaceutical medicines regarding pain relief. Although the drug has its side effects, they are less than those brought by pharmaceutical medicines. Hence, people prefer consuming marijuana products for pain-relieving due to its minimal side effects
Transitional sentence: people use marijuana to cure pain because extreme pain in the body can result in insomnia, which, in turn, can result in depression.

Marijuana has health benefits in the body, such as the treatment or management of anxiety and depression
Detail A: different strains of marijuana have different impacts on the body when consumed. Strains such as Indica can evoke a happy feeling in the user’s body (Baron et al., 2018). Therefore, when consumed, the user would forget about the issues causing them to feel depressed or those causing anxiety. The right choice of marijuana strain is key to managing depression and anxiety. Hence, this calls for the necessity of a prescription by a doctor.
