One of the life domains listed that holds value to me is physical self-care and health of which my core values are discipline, accountability, forgiveness, individuality, and moderation. Some of the barriers I am currently facing in this domain include the lack of motivation for a physical and health overhaul. Breaking old habits and easing into a healthier diet has been difficult: I tend to lose focus and motivation just a few days after starting on my health goals. Another challenge in the physical self-care and health is tied to the nature of most social gatherings: it is hard to keep a healthy diet when the social gatherings I attend are filled with junk food and alcohol. In order to blend in, I find myself discarding my healthy lifestyle in such situations and eating more than I want to. One of the committed actions I could take to put my core values into place is visualizing the outcome: in order to stay disciplined and stay accountable to my health goals, I could set small, attainable short-term goals and announcing it to my friends to help me stick to the same.
Another committed action I could take to put my core values of individuality and moderation in social gatherings where I am likely to overeat or overindulge in junk food is scoping out the menu beforehand. Knowing if there is any healthier option or how many drinks or junk food, I am okay with is critical to practicing self-restraint and avoiding gorging myself with unhealthy food just to blend in. I will also commit myself to putting more hours in the gym whenever I overindulge as part of putting the core value of forgiveness in action.
