* The wage has always been one of the main determinants of social equality. Ever since the inception of the feminist movement, equal pay and opportunities in both social and political aspects of life have been one of the main issues that individuals fought for. In line with this, some of the historical solutions that were passed to address inequalities on gender pay include legislation that prohibits wage discrimination based on gender, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This legislation promoted the value of equal pay for equal work and circumstances between men and women. Today, however, many other solutions go beyond a mere imposition of equal pay. This includes unionization, provision of maternity leaves, and other acts beyond the basic requirement of women’s rights. These were more effective, for it does not merely provide benefits based on “equality” but on “equity” by considering the various risks and circumstances that women face.
