In their study, Wei et al. (2013) examined whether the relationship between emotional suppression and interpersonal harmony is moderated by cultural groups (Americans and Chinese) and an Asian cultural value (emotional self-control). The researchers hypothesized that for the Chinese, there would be a significantly positive relation between emotional suppression and interpersonal harmony, while for Americans, the relation would be absent. 205 Chinese and 246 American college students completed the questionnaires about emotional suppression and emotional self-control. The results showed that cultural groups moderated the relationship between suppression and interpersonal harmony, with the association being significantly positive for the Chinese. In essence,
