Civic (Civil) Society
It is an arena outside the confines of the market or state, which includes a wide array of organizations, institutions, unions, groups, professional associations, and foundations that aim to advance their shared interests. They influence the actions of governments (policy-makers), individuals, and corporations (Jezard, 2018).
Peacekeeping
It refers to a United Nations mechanism of conflict management involving the deployment of the UN’s presence in the field (military, police, or civilian) with the consent of all parties involved in the conflict in a manner that is impartial and without the use of force except in circumstances of self-defense. Peacekeeping is significant in maintaining a ceasefire in a conflict region and restoring and maintaining international peace and security (Basu, 2012).
Rational Actor Model
It is a decision-making approach that guides primary decision-makers to rank preferences, identify alternatives and their consequences, and choose from the available options according to the level of satisfaction of achieving specified goals and objectives. The model is instrumental in explaining economic behavior and has also been used to understand social behavior (Mintz & DeRouen, 2010).
International Organizations
Refers to institutions responsible for setting the rules for states or countries while providing avenues for diplomacy. International Organizations are essential in controlling nuclear weapons proliferation, maintaining military alliances, addressing hunger around the globe, fostering peace, and supervising trade.
Nuclear Proliferation Treaty
It is an agreement among nuclear and non-nuclear powers that aims to prevent the spread of nuclear technology and weapons. NPT is essential in nuclear weapon disarmament while promoting nuclear technology's beneficial and peaceful utilization (UN, n.d.).
