Racial bias is the prejudiced or an unfair treatment of an individual or a group on the basis of their ethnicity or their race which most of the time leads to stereotyping, discrimination or inequity in opportunities. In your opinion do children learn racial bias at home? From society? Or is it a combination of both? Children are able to learn the act of racial discrimination and bias from different sources, from school, the society and also from home. Mostly, children learn racial discrimination from a combination of both these influences. The perception of a child of what race is and subsequently racial discrimination is shaped by family values, cultural attitudes as well as cultural norms. The interactions among children at school, the behavior of teachers and also the school curriculum can influence the child’s perception of race. Community dynamics as well as the media are societal factors that contribute to the way a child understands the differences in race and this may also lead to children learning racial discrimination and bias.
