1. In a couple of sentences, describe Dr. Fee's theme for this video.
Dr. Fee's theme for this video is the Mystery of the Kingdom of God. In this theme, Fee explains that the kingdom of God is full of mystery based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. He notes that the mystery comes about in the unexpected events during Jesus’ ministry. That is to say, what people received was contrary to their expectations.
2. What problem(s) was Dr. Fee trying to solve?
Dr. Fee was trying to solve two problems. The first problem is the mystery of the Kingdom of God. According to Fee, the mystery is an unexpected occurrence. During Jesus' ministry, many people doubted if He was the prophesized Messiah to proclaim the Kingdom of God. The magnitude expected God’s king to show up as a powerful person, not a humble Jesus. They expected a king who would sit at a table with other kings, not the one who eats with the tax collectors and the sinners. In other words, what they saw was not what they expected.
Despite the doubts, Jesus went around teaching the Gospel, casting out demons, healing the sick, and performing miracles. However, the Pharisees and the Sadducees questioned his authority because they did not believe that Jesus was the sent Messiah. They had already made up their minds regarding the appearance and work of the Messiah, but they were surprised to witness the contrary. In this context, Fee was trying to explain that the kingdom of God does not exist according to our expectations.
The second problem is how the kingdom of God is both present and future simultaneously. To solve this problem, Fee stated that the kingdom of God was inaugurated with the coming of Jesus (41.32), and it will be consummate...
