School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions in Dutch Elementary Schools

Coursework Instructions:

Visit the Purdue Global Library: Using Publication Finder search bar, search for the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Then, search within the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis for one of the research designs you read about this week. The article must use an ABAB design, a multiple baseline design, an alternating treatments design, or a changing criterion design to evaluate a behavior intervention.
Your search should return a number of articles. You are looking for an article that used one of the research designs we have covered to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention. You are not looking for an article just on the research design. Review the titles to find a topic that is of interest to you. Read the article. Then, in your Discussion Board post, complete the following:
Briefly describe the intervention that was used by the researchers. What is the independent variable? What was the dependent variable (the behavior being measured)?
Briefly describe the research design used in the study.
Identify how this research design demonstrates a functional relationship between the intervention and the dependent variable (the target behavior).
Were these researchers able to demonstrate a functional relationship?
Make sure to include a full APA formatted reference for the article you chose.

“Exploring the Effectiveness of School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions in Dutch Elementary Schools”
In a recent study published in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Nelen et al. (2021) investigated the effects of School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supported (PBIS) in Dutch elementary schools. The researchers aimed to determine if the implementation of PBIS had a positive impact on students’ behavior in the school environment. The independent variable in this study was the implementation of PBIS, and the dependent variable was the students’ behavior in the school environment.
The research design used in this study was a multiple baseline design. This design was used because it allows the researchers to evaluate the effects of the intervention in several different settings or groups at other times. This design allows the researchers to determine if the intervention is the cause of the changes observed in the dependent variable (FAAN & FAAN, 2012). The multiple baseline design was an appropriate choice for this study because it was necessary to demonstrate the effectiveness of PBIS in different school environments and over different per...
