1 The study I propose will be about the effects of the media violence on late adolescents. The study will delve discuss the negative effects of distinct violence shown on media. The media is a widely available public information mecca. This, especially with the advancement of today’s technology. Anything shown on media will have an effect on anyone who will see and know about it. The violence shown on movies and television, for example, can have a physical negative effect on its audience. It can elevate anxiety by influencing the blood pressure and heart rate of an individual watching the violent clips. This, in turn, may influence the individual’s morality and personal strengths. The study will observe random individuals in their late adolescents. Media is a notable factor in this age group’s socialization and identity development. Late adolescents’ exposure to violence shown on media is one of the leading health concerns in the US alone.
2 I anticipate that media violence has negative effects on late adolescents in college.
1 Participants will be randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. Those under the experimental group will watch violent movie clips. While, those in the control group will watch non-violent movie clips. The study will measure the anxiety and cardiovascular reactivity by way of a cardiovascular measuring equipment and computer questionnaires like the 20-item State Anxiety scale from the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger et al. 1970). Pre-test and post-test questionnaires, like The Community Experiences Questionnaire (Schwartz and Proctor 2000), will also be administered to assess the participants’ prior exposure to real-life and media violence.
