The Employment Situation Summary
* The most evident result from the most recent unemployment figures is that the rate of unemployment is rising significantly. Every figure presented by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (2020) depicts a capitulating situation for the economy. For instance, the unemployment rate in March rose to 4.4%, a rise brought about by 700,000 new unemployed people. It is the largest over-the-month increase since that has been experienced in the United States since January 1975. The gravity of the situation is apparent in the leisure and hospitality industries where the level of employment fell by 459,000 (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2020). This situation serves to highlight the predicament the American economy faces as it gears to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, if this is the trajectory that things will take in due course, then some families will unable to afford their primal necessities in a few weeks.
* The most recent report is shocking taking into account the level of unemployment reached 7.1 million with 1.4 million of those coming in March alone (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2020). The 1.4 million figure is equivalent to 20% of the entire group, which is alarming. Although shocking, it is very difficult to ascertain the most suitable course from the government although the figures give more basis for a universal income, even for the period we are in a lockdown only.
* Currently, the economy is crushing because there are is no production or manufacturing of commodities being conducted. Further, people are in lockdown meaning that most of them are unproductive. Further, the situation is apparent in the rising number of unemploy...
