Sustainable Sport Products (Canadian Tire Retail) – CTC3 Background: • The product lifecycle of sports equipment and accessories among youth often have a shorter life cycle then their adult equivalents, resulting in premature disposal of products that result in increased waste • High performance sports equipment is often manufactured from virgin materials • Sport products are often discarded when they are not needed anymore or are broken. However, a broken hockey stick can often be refurbished as a sledge hockey stick. Soccer balls with a puncture might be refurbished into a different product. • Sustainability is a key concern for CTC and at Canadian Tire. It is important for the organization to continue to evolve to meet the conscientious needs of our customers while working towards meeting global sustainability goals. Problem: MAKING SPORT ACCESSORIES AND EQUIPMENT SUSTAINABLE As retailers exert more pressure on manufacturers to develop more sustainable products, what environmentally friendly sport products should Canadian Tire Retail (CTR) consider adding to its assortment? What else can CTR do to help increase the lifespan of sports equipment, specifically youth sports equipment? Please ensure that your research includes an international scan of sustainable sport products (and relevant programs) available in other markets to inform your strategy and assortment recommendations.
