Durant, & Durant, (p.2) assert that war is a historical occurrence and that democracy has not resulted to less war. There are indeed many causes of war that include, acquisitiveness, desire for basic needs and resources, competition among individuals, pugnacity, and pride. In my view the war in Afghanistan was not just a war; the US invaded the country with claims of fighting the terror group Al-Qaida. The US made the advances on their own grounds and hence only one country attacked the other. This would not be referred to as war, it is an invasion.
Whether the US had a right or not to invade the country is not an issue; however their intention and aftermath remain questionable. As (p.356) states, in the topic of “the Just War Tradition” Oppression is a better word. The US oppressed Afghanistan citizens with major claims of rape, violence and torture. Those who ended up suffering were the innocent citizens that knew nothing about the terror gangs (Kung, 311).
I would agree with Amy that the war was less just, it is more likely to see it as an attempt to assert authority. Indeed, all conditions of jus ad bellum nee...
