Required Journal Entry 9: Comparison and Contrast Review Abigail Zuger's “Defining a Doctor, with a Tear, a Shrug, and a Schedule” on pages 403–405. Describe an experience you've had with a doctor or other medical professional. (1 paragraph, 5 sentences) Compare/contrast: List the similarities and the differences of your own experience, showing how they match up with the work of the two doctors described in Zuger's article. Course Work Name: Institution: Journal Entry 9: Comparison and Contrast Being a physician is not like any other job, as it requires one to be a more rounded person than the average staff. I leant this during my fast days in the practice, as an intern, while working under the supervision of one doctor Webb. My experience relates to the story of the two interns under the writer of the article, ‘Defining a Doctor, with a Tear, a Shrug, and a Schedule’. Similarities In my case, we were two of us and like the gentleman I never worked too hard (Zuger, 2004). Like the gentleman, I was in by the time it clocked 7 AM, an hour earlier, this would give me time to plan my day. Contrary to the man in the article, if any of my patients died, it would leave me feeling horrible for several hours. Unlike the man, we both cared about our patients, giving them all the attention that they need. Like the man in the article I would take some time off on the weekend. Differences I gave some extra hours at the end of the shift. My colleague was more of the lady in the article who would breakdown emotionally. In the evening I would always leave at 5 PM but, unlike the gentleman most of the time I would find myself working late when my patients needed close attention. The other intern on the other hand was different from me as she worked extra hours every other shift. My colleague was mostly immersed in their duties, like the lady in the article without breaks. I have always tried to balance between my duties as a physician and other life activities, although it is hard because they all require great amount of attention (Zuger, 2004). Journal Entry 5: Public Space Like the case of Brent in the essay, ‘Black Men and Public Space’ most African Americans have been the victims of racism that altered the space around them. There have been several cases that have happened in our class but the most vivid one was during my sophomore year...
