Using quotes in your speech could add to the selling power of whatever idea you want your audience to understand and accept. There is a hint of truth in them that their authors, who were inspired enough to make them, wanted to impart to would-be listeners.
For example, if you want to talk about happiness, you could use the following quotes to supplement your selling idea:
"No man is happy unless he believes he is." - Pubilius Syrus
Using this quote at the start of your speech would introduce the idea the one's happiness depends on that person's perspective. You, as the speaker, could expand your idea from here.
"No man is happy but by comparison." - Thomas Shadwell
This quote would then introduce a problem that the audience would no doubt relate to: how comparison would lead to questioning one's level of happiness.
"If you want to be happy, be." - Leo Tolstoy
This quote would then serve sum up the point of the discussion. That, despite complexities and comparisons, there is still the choice to be happy and to staying in that state of mind.
Another kind of topic worth speaking about would be wealth. This next batch of quotes would serve well in this kind of speech:
"Money won't make you happy... but everybody wants to find out for themselves." – Zig Ziglar
This quote would serve well in the beginning of the speech, as it highlights the main point of the discussion.
"Anybody who thinks money will make you happy, hasn't got money." – David Geffen
Again, this quote would highlight the main point of discussion. And the speaker could also point out how these first two quotes hint of having experienced the downside of financial success.
"Prospering just doesn’t have to do with money." – Joel Osteen
This would serve as a good ending to the speech, pointing out the fact that prosperity and happiness in life does not necessarily always have to be about money.
Success is another topic that would need quotations. It would surely help if the quotes come from well-known people who have become successful in their lives:
"In order to succeed, you must first be willing to fail.” – Anonymous
This quote would make a good start in the discussion, as it points out the main topic of how success could not exist without failures.
"Failure is success if we learn from it." – Malcolm Fo...
