Economic Growth, Technology and Education Student's Name Institutional Affiliation Economic Growth, Technology and Education OECD has defined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as "an aggregate measure of production equal to the sum of the gross values added of all resident, institutional units engaged in production (plus any taxes, and minus any subsidies, on products not included in the value of their outputs," (OECD, 2002). Therefore, GDP is the value of all finished goods and services that a country produces within a specific period. According to IMF "GDP measures the monetary value of final goods and services, that is, those that are bought by the finals user, produced in a country in a given period of time (say quarterly or yearly)," Callen, 2012). In the article, The Long View: Effects of growth, it is evident that GDP is directly related to habitat conservation. The authors start by giving the examples of some regions of both North and South Korea together with their GDP. Haiti has a GDP of $771 and Dominican Republic has a GDP of $5,736. The forests of Haiti are shrinking and is barren while Dominican Republic has a dense forest. During the earlier stages of growth the GDP of countries reduce and their resources are exhausted creating inequality in the country. At later stages of development the GDP increases and the resources benefit in return. This is also seen in the case of poor and rich countries. Poor countries cut down their trees while rich countries plant more trees examples are South Korea and Brazil.
