In Schenck v. the United States, the Supreme Court upheld Elizabeth Baer and Charles Schenck’s imprisonment for breaching the 1917 Espionage Act via activities that hindered the WWI enlistment service. When America entered WWI, Congress approved the 1917 Espionage Act. This law was amended the subsequent year to include the sedition law clauses. The law aimed to criminalize interferences with the US army and naval forces.
