It is significant to collect and preserve bloodstain evidence in a crime scene as it can be used to determine the blood type or analyze the DNA. In a crime scene, the blood can be collected in either liquid or dried form.
Even though blood evidence in liquid form is assembled from the blood pool, it can also be gathered from garments using a misty pad or a sterilized cotton. After collection, the blood is frozen or refrigerated should be taken to the laboratory as swiftly as possible. The blood sample could turn not to be useful if not taken to the laboratory after 48 hours of collection (Crime Museum, 2021). It is crucial for the blood collected to be completely dried at room temperature. A thorough air drying for samples that need to be posted should be done and if the sample is not air-dried, should be rolled in a paper before labeling. After labeling, then the sample should be put in a paper bag that is brown in color or in a box. The box or the brown paper bag should then be sealed and labeled. To avoid contamination, it is crucial to put one sample item per container. Plastics are not good materials for packaging as the moisture from the damp sample may be a source microorganisms that can ruin the evidence. For this reason, a sample should not be in a case beyond two hours.
