           In the early 1900s, many Mexicans entered the US legally to provide the much-needed labor in US factories and farms. According to Koch (2006), Mexicans could enter the US legally with no complications because there were no strict immigration laws in the US before 1924. However, between 1930 and 1935, tens of thousands of these Mexicans who were legally in the US were forced out during the depression (Hunt, 2006). The government used various techniques to push out Mexicans out of the US through what is known as the Mexican Repatriation Program.
           Raids were conducted on Mexicans’ homes, and they were arrested and then sent to Mexico by train, leaving all their belongings behind. “They didn’t let us take anything,” notes Pina, a victim of the raids (Koch, 2006).
