Nursing is the largest yet most diverse healthcare profession. Nurses may collaborate with other health care professionals such as doctors in certain instances or work independently in discharging care to patients. The nursing profession has been one that has constantly evolved in the manner of discharge of duties. However, the goal has largely remained the same; to provide care to patients. During the pre-historic times, health practices were primarily based on magic, religion, and superstition beliefs. The use of herbs and magic were considered as the primary forms of treatment. Nursing practices were not to be undertaken by women who were considered noble in society, such as the wives of emperors. However, this got to change with time.
