In the United States (U.S.) and most parts of the world, the healthcare sector is characterized by significant disparities for vulnerable populations. There are several populations considered to be vulnerable due to the inability to access health care services. According to De Chesnay (2008), the health and healthcare issues that face vulnerable populations are exacerbated by several social factors. One of the factors that make populations vulnerable is their geographical communities and areas. In most cases, people living in rural areas face problems accessing quality health care compared to the general population (De Chesnay, 2008). This is because most people living in rural areas suffer from geographical marginalization, low socio-economic status, and lack of well-paying jobs (De Chesnay, 2008). Therefore, geographical factors play an essential role in promoting health vulnerabilities among populations.
