1 One of the sterols present in high-risk populations is cholesterol. According to the National Library of Medicine (n.d.), the chemical compound for cholesterol is C27H46O, which is composed of a hydroxyl group and a hydrocarbon tail attached to a central nucleus made up of sterol compound.
2 Like other sterols, cholesterol has a good and bad compound. On the one hand, the good kind of cholesterol is HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol which helps provide the stability of cell membrane and has a critical function in the removal of sterol plaques within the body. On the other hand, bad cholesterol, also known as LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein), can increase the risks of various neurological and cardiovascular diseases like stroke, hypertension, and heart attack, to name a few.
