The topic of healthcare policy decisions touches every citizen since medical services are necessities to everyone. For an extended period, the United States of America (USA) has tried several strategies to ensure that all its citizens can access quality healthcare services. In that light, different administrations have approached and addressed the issue distinctively.
President Bush's administration developed policies to improve the healthcare system by ensuring that it is portable, efficient, transparent, and affordable. He empowered Americans and challenged them to take charge of their medical needs. Most importantly, President Bush introduced tax-free savings accounts (HSAs) (The White House, n.d.). The primary agenda of President Obama was to make healthcare services affordable to low-income earners and poor people. President Obama signed and passed the Obamacare bill in March 2010, which enabled about 20 million Americans to access medical coverage (Marmor, 2010). The introduction of Medicaid helped numerous USA citizens to get health insurance with low premium rates. President Trump's administration sabotaged Obamacare and reduced opportunities and outreach of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In addition, he cut ACA subsidies that went to insurance companies covering exchanges (Thompson, 2020).
