The United States is one of the remaining countries in the developed world that does not have a single-payer health care insurance system in place. With the future of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act being uncertain, we hear continuing discussion as to whether the United States could (and/or should) adopt a single-payer system. Could a single-payer system be possible, even though it is forecast to cost trillions of dollars? How would it affect health care costs, coverage networks, types of covered vs. noncovered services, patient waiting times (for appointments, testing, procedures, and surgeries), coinsurances, and (finally) our taxes? Would currently working employees be required to give up their existing coverage for what will be provided under the single-payer system?
Once you have read the assigned background readings, as well as completed some peer-reviewed research of your own, address the following:
Describe an example of how a single-payer system (such as ‘Medicare For All’, as just one example) works in the United States.

Single-payer health care insurance system refers to the streamlined financial method where one entity provides the health care finances and payments. This financing mechanism increases the cost-effective and efficient Medicare program covering all individuals in the US. Healthcare delivery, including doctors and hospitals, continues to be private, and patients are certain of care options for caregivers. With the single-payer program, everyone has insurance coverage but can select where they want to obtain care. This is why it differs from Medicare, thus the US single-payer nickname "Medicare-for-all." This paper addresses how a single-payer system works in the US, its benefits and drawbacks, and opinions if the US should or should not embrace this system.
Medicare-for-all consists of a single-payer program where all Americans are insured by a more substantial version of Medicare, health coverage for older people, which might substitute the current private and public plans with minimal exceptions. Most of the exclusion would enable employers and individuals to buy a Medicare-like "public option" that would contend with private plans instead of substituting them. The new model would
