The United States (U.S.) would face significant challenges in implementing the single-payer system. According to Blumberg and Holahan (2019), implementing the single-payer system means the country will continue struggling with rising healthcare expenditures and costs. This implies that the government may face problems raising funds for the program, which means an additional tax burden on citizens. The government may face challenges in financing and delivering health care due to the absence of a multi-player private health insurance system that could better serve such objectives. In addition, people may still choose to procure complimentary private medical coverage to reimburse for out-of-pocket costs. It may also be infeasible for the government to control all healthcare facilities and ensure all services are accessible to all people.
