“Travel Health Notices inform travelers and clinicians about current health issues that impact travelers’ health, like disease outbreaks, special events or gatherings, and natural disasters, in destinations around the world” (CDC, 2023). Traveler-based Genomic Surveillance for Early Detection of New SARS-CoV-2 Variants is one tool used to detect spreading of the disease that causes Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and identifying and tracking new viral variants among international travelers. Viruses are tracked using genomic sequence data collected by Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The CDC warns travelers of emerging viruses worldwide. There are 3 Levels of warning issued by the CDC to travelers planning on traveling in the abroad. Warning Level 3: focuses on the avoidance of all non-essential travel to destinations in the United States and abroad. Outbreaks of a virus is of high risk to travelers. Alert Level 2: focuses on the practice of enhancing precautions for this destination. The Travel Health Notice describes additional precautions needed for specific at-risk populations. Finally, watch Level 1: focuses on the task of practicing usual precautions for a particular destination. Examples of notices posted by the CDC included the recent “recommendations that travelers should avoid all nonessential travel to Venezuela due to the country experiencing outbreaks of infectious diseases”, and the “reconsiderations of traveling to China, Hong Kong, and Macau due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and limited health care resources” (CDC, 2023). The CDC recommends that “travelers make sure to be up to date on all of your routine vaccines for the protection of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 that can spread quickly in groups of unvaccinated people”. “Many diseases prevented by routine vaccination are not common in the United States but are still common in other countries” (CDC, 2023).

Increased travel has increased the likelihood of the spread of diseases. The reemergence of the once thought eradicated diseases has caused major concern for travelers. The Office of Global Affairs is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and works alongside with the CDC to “foster critical global relationships, coordinate international engagement across HHS and the U.S. government” (HHS, 2023). Controlling the spread of diseases both nationally and internationally, providing vital information about available vaccines globally, and the patrolling of airports and borders are the goals of HHS to reduce disease outbreak. One such outbreak that is under surveillance is the possible spread of Monkey pox (Mpox). The virus is spread mostly through close, intimate contact with someone who has already contracted the virus. Currently, HHS surveillance through the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention is tracking an outbreak of mpox that has spread across several countries that don’t normally report mpox, including the United States. With the governments approach to tackling mpox, the response is to ensure that high-risk communities in localities across the country get vaccines, testing, and treatments (HHS, 2023).

Hello student. Great job
You have identified the precautions that should be taken to prevent the spread of disease from other countries to the United States and from the United States to other countries. I agree that the main precaution includes ensuring that travel health notices are made to create awareness among travelers and clinicians about the general health issues that influence the traveler's health. The health issues may be natural disasters, special events or gatherings, and disease outbreaks in destinations across the globe. Also, according to CDC (2023), there are three warnings issued by the CDC to travelers that plan to travel abroad. The third warning level focuses on caut...
