Description of the Assignment
An annotated bibliography is an alphabetical list of information sources (such as journal articles), formatted like a bibliography or a reference list, accompanied by a commentary, or annotation, for each source. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to learn about a topic through a critical review of literature and encourage a deeper engagement with literature to develop analytical skills.
Preparing the Assignment
1. For this assignment, you will use the five theories/models listed below:
Health Belief Model
Transtheoretical Model of Behavioral Change
Social Cognitive Theory
Family Systems Theory
Family Assessment and Intervention Model
2. Search the library for literature. Locate one article related to each selected theory or model.
Use only scholarly sources as defined for the NP program: A US-based peer-reviewed journal for clinicians (MD/DO/NP/PA) published in the past five years or the latest clinical practice guideline (CPG).
3. Prepare an annotated entry for each source. Begin with the full APA citation of the source, followed by 2-3 paragraphs:
* Summarize the article.
* Describe how the article relates to the chosen theory/model.
Reflect on how the article could (or could not) be relevant to future Nurse Practitioner practice.
Criteria for Format and Special Instructions
The paper should not include a separate title page. No reference page is necessary as it will incorporate the references into the body of the bibliography.
The template must be used for this assignment: NR501NP Week 5 Assignment Template is attached. Use this template.

NR501NP Week Five Assignment
This paper will outline scholarly literature that addresses the five theories: Health Belief Model, Transtheoretical Model of Behavioral Change, Social Cognitive Theory, Family Systems Theory and Family Assessment and Intervention Model. The annotation will describe the summary of the article, the relationship between the theory and the article, and a reflection on the impact of this information on future advanced nursing practice.
Health Belief Model
Shmueli, L. (2021). Predicting intention to receive COVID-19 vaccine among the general population using the health belief model and the theory of planned behavior model. BMC Public Health, 21, 1–13. https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.1186/s12889-021-10816-7
The article aimed to investigate the barriers, intentions, and motivators of the population to undergo vaccination against COVID-19 through the application of the Health Belief Model. The article discusses the health risk posed by the outbreak of COVID-19 and the reasons the government heavily invested in purchasing vaccines that would later be used to vaccinate the public. However, vaccine hesitancy among a section of the population impeded government objectives of mass vaccination. The US recorded the lowest rates of vaccine uptake among western countries. Therefore, the article significantly relates to the HBM model since it helps investigate the relationship between health behavior and health services usage. Further, the paper seeks to apply the model in forecasting and describing preventive health behavior based on certain belief patterns. It is worth noting that health behavior divides the population into two sections where people deny the possibility of getting infected. In contrast, other people fear the risk of getting infected. As a result, the paper discusses the behavioral change discussed in the HBM, including internal and external incentives that influence vaccine uptake.
The article could be appropriate to Nursing Practitioner practice that portrays the effect of belief systems influencing behavioral change in seeking health services. Therefore, nurses can use the paper to understand effective strategies needed in the future to encourage the population to take healthcare services offered in the facilities. Additionally, the article can encourage future studies on how to break barriers, motivations, and intentions in vaccine uptake among the population.
Trans-theoretical Model of Behavioral Change
Lee, S.-M., Singh, G., & Wright, E. M. (2020). Using the Transtheoretical Model to Promote Behavior Change for Social Justice in Kinesiology. Journal of Sport Physiology in Action, 12(3), 1–15. https://doi.org/10.1080/21520704.2020.1822969
The article explores the possibilities of social justice-based education failure and the ripple effects on discriminatory behaviors and attitudes. Therefore, the Trans-Theoretical Model (TTM) is a vital structure in studying and understanding the psychological processes of social justice-based behavior change. Further, the article aims at describing the application of TTM in the study of social justice. It is worth noting that behavior change moves through various stages. As a result, the theory establis...
