A Review
A common trend here in America we hear about more and more are different diseases and disorders that are popping up and becoming more relevant today. One of these disorders is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and it is affecting our youth and increasing over the last several decades. There are many tools and resources at our fingertips these days with the endless amount of information that is available online and it gets hard to determine what is credible and what should be dismissed. KidsHealth.org has a great and informative section devoted to ADHD for those parents who have questions and this site does a great job answering questions and giving information from basic to advance.
This site is running by medical doctors who have their degrees and who are in the field studying and relaying this information back to us. They not only have their MD’s but also must go through others who critique, and fact check the information that they provide. The site is owned and operated by Nemours Children’s Health System, which is a nonprofit organization. The site is maintained and set up using the .org web page URL domain and that means it is designated for non profit organizations.
As stated, the Nemours Children’s Health System is a nonprofit organization and is responsible for the information that is provided on the web page. That is system is part of the Nemours children’s hospitals located in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. It is stated on their page,
“Physicians and other health experts review all content before it's published on KidsHealth. Content is reviewed and updated on a regular basis to keep medical information accurate and relevant. Articles show the most recent review date and expert reviewer names, where appropriate.” (Kids Health, 2020)
The KidsHealth ADHD article provides great introductory information on what ADHD is and what step can be taken if a parent feels they need to bring their child to a doctor. The site offers the signs of ADHD and what those may be including, “Inattentive, Hyperactive, and Impulsive.” (ADHD, Hasan, 2017). It further goes into diagnosing the disorder including what to expect at a doctor visit to further talking about treatment options, what the parent might do, and the typical causes of ADHD. The site does a great job of providing in text links to more information within each text. The site suffers however in providing a visual aid or comfort to the reader and includes only a single image with “Tips for managing ADHD.”
