The two main objectives of the male reproductive system are the production and delivery of sperm and the secretion of testosterone. To this end, the male reproductive cells are involved in the production, maintenance, and transportation of sperm and semen. The penis is used to discharge semen into the reproductive tract of the female (Simon, 2002). Testosterone is also secreted in the male reproductive system. It plays a crucial role in the production of sperm.
Question 2
The two main functions of the male reproductive system are the production of the male gamete and the release of testosterone into the body. Production of sperm is completed in the testes, which is linked to the male reproductive system through the vas deferens. To this end, the seminiferous tubules within the testes serve to produce sperm through the process of spermatogenesis with the testes playing a key role in the production of testosterone (Simon, 2002). Once the sperm are produced, the penis transfers the sperm to the vagina during copulation.
Question 3
Semen contains fluids from the testes, the seminal vesicles, and the prostate gland. The fluid from the testes is known as the epididymal fluid, which nourishes and protects the sperm as they mature in the epididymis. The epididymal fluid is added to the semen during ejaculation. The seminal vesicles produce a fluid that makes up most of the semen. This fluid contains fructose, which provides energy for the sperm to swim, as well as proteins that help the sperm survive in the female reproductive tract (Simon, 2002). The seminal vesicle fluid also contains prostaglandins, which stimulate contractions in the female reproductive tract and help the sperm to move toward the egg. The prostate gland produces a milky fluid that is added to the semen during ejaculation. This fluid contains enzymes, such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which help to liquefy the semen and allow the sperm to move more freely (Simon, 2002).
