Introduction
Interprofessional collaboration is key in healthcare, as it enhances quality, patient-centered care delivery. It is made possible by teams within the healthcare environment, made up of members from various disciplines. These include nurses, orthopedists, surgeons, dietitians, physiotherapists, and physician consultants. Reeves et al. (2017), highlight that these disciplines work as a team to meet and address the diverse and complex patient needs. Key aspects of interprofessional work and one core competency will be discussed in this paper.
Comprehending the role of every profession in the team is one key aspect of interprofessional work. Here, it is paramount to acknowledge and seek to understand that every professional has a set of unique skills and expertise. Reeves et al. (2017) state that each professional’s unique role and background should be respected to enhance effective communication and facilitate care coordination.
The second key aspect is being particular with processes and expectations. Every profession has its particular expectations and processes.
