The transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) intervention contributes to a patient's quality of life and satisfaction in various ways. It will lead to effective pain management, minimize adverse effects associated with PN-related pain medications, and save on healthcare costs. The 73-year-old man with PN in the neighborhood and his wife gave feedback that the TENS intervention has been excellent in managing his condition, particularly the extreme nerve pain. They reported on the cost-effectiveness of the intervention and its simplicity to use. The patient also said that he no longer experiences adverse drug effects related to his pain management medications since TENS intervention effectively manages his nerve pain. TENS intervention enhances the patient's experience since he no longer feels severe PN-related pain. In addition, TENS intervention prevents the use of pain medication, further preventing the associated medication effects. The intervention also saves costs since it is an effective and inexpensive technique in pain management (Vance et al., 2022). Ultimately, the patient experiences much satisfaction and improved quality of life due to TENS intervention.
The use of peer-reviewed and evidence-based literature helped plan and implement TENS intervention for PN-related pain management. Research evidence from published, credible, and reliable medical health information guided the planning, decision-making, and implementation of TENS intervention for the neighbor's PN-pain management. Research studies and systematic reviews informed on the effectiveness of TENS intervention in pain relief effects. Evidence-based medicine entails a systematic approach to solving clinical problems while integrating the principle of research evidence, clinical expertise, practice context, and patient's circumstances and values (Akobeng, 2005). The principle of research evidence formed the basis of the appropriate intervention for managing the neighbor's pain. The patient's circumstances of intense pain, adverse drug effects, and increased healthcare costs informed of the need to use TENS intervention. In addition, the practical context and clinical expertise principles influenced the implementation of the most appropriate intervention that would fulfill the patient's pain needs and save on costs. These evidence-based practice principles informed the need for TENS intervention in the neighbor’s PN-pain management.
Healthcare technology enabled effective management of the neighbor's condition, adverse drug effects associated with pain medications, and pain symptoms to a great extent. TENS healthcare technology effectively managed his extreme nerve pain. In addition, the neighbor used a glucometer, blood pressure cuff, and thermometer to manage his blood sugar, pressure, and temperature. Moreover, digital technology enhanced effective communication with the patient through messages, phone and video calls, and emails.
