Immunity
Immunity to a disease is the availability of antibodies to the illness in a person's body system. Crotty (2021) says that antibodies produce proteins that help neutralize disease-carrying organisms. A person immune to a particular illness can easily fight the sickness, avoiding it from spreading than a person vulnerable to the sickness. The first time a person is exposed to a virus, the immune system can be slow to make antibodies because it lacks identifying the bacteria. Once a person is immune, they can easily avoid spreading infectious disease because their body will fight the disease before showing symptoms like coughing and flu, which exposes the bacteria to the environment, reducing the disease from spreading (Crotty, 2021).
Immunity can either be passive or active. Active immunity is acquired after a person is exposed to the illness organism then the immune system is triggered to produce the disease's antibodies.
