"America on High Alert as FBI Warns of 'Armed Protests'; D.C. Police Officers Describe the Violent Mob That Attacked Them; Biden Unveils $1.9 Trillion Economic and Healthcare Plan. Aired 6-6:30a E.T." New Day (CNN).
The report by CNN illustrates the widespread fears over renewed attacks in place following the Capitol Building insurrection and the security measures in place to mitigate these threats. In preparation for Joe Biden’s inauguration, a lockdown has been implemented in Washington DC and more than 20000 troops deployed to maintain security in the Capitol Building. Jessica Schneider goes on air with Peter Stager, one of the insurrectionists charged with the attacks on the Capitol Building, with him voicing his anger and not regretting his actions at all, stating that the Capitol Building is filled with traitors. One police officer, Michael Fanone of the DC Metropolitan Police shares his side of the story, expressing how difficult it was to contain the riot. The police and the security detail were outnumbered and helpless; 30 individuals going against a crowd of more than 15000 rioters. The sources referenced in this report by CNN are mostly recounts and opinions of people who were involved in the event. The sources were also not enough to paint a complete picture of the exact events of that fateful day. While the possibility that the stories may be biased or over-exaggerated remains high, one thing remains clear. The police officers tasked with the protection of innocent lives during the attack should be hailed as heroes. It is no mean feat going up against a blood-thirsty, vengeful crowd who believe they have been robbed or treated unfairly.
Lindstrom, Natasha. "Casey Wants Consequences for Congress Members as Pressure Mounts to Oust Trump." Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (P.A.), 12 Jan. 2021.
Natasha focuses on the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection, the importance of holding those responsible for the insurrection to book, the key individual being Donald Trump. Democrats sought to link Trump to the violence that occurred on Jan 6 and fought to have him impeached, never able to run for public office ever again. This article draws from sources close to the former President Donald Trump, anonymous sources inside the White House and allies to Trump.
Niquette, Mark, et al. "Democrats Seek to Show Trump Was Indifferent to Capitol Assault." Bloomberg.Com, Feb. 2021.
In this article, Niquette et al. seeks to create a picture of the Trump impeachment process following the attack on the Capitol Building. Democrats argued that the repeated message in Trump's speeches over many months brewed distrust among his supporters and led them to believe that they had been robbed. They sought to have Trump impeached as they thought that it was...
