Hand hygiene is an evidence-based practice (EBP) activity in my clinical practice setting. In particular, it is a significant problem that leads to hospital-acquired infections. Healthcare professionals’ hands can transmit various healthcare-associated pathogens from one patient to another within the healthcare setting. Hand hygiene is the primary measure of decreasing healthcare-associated infections and preventing antimicrobial resistance (Allegranzi & Pittet, 2009). In addition, promoting hand hygiene by adopting alcohol-based hand washing products in my clinical practice setting reduces the cross-transmission of pathogens and the infection rates. Mouajou et al. (2022) acknowledge that the hands of medical specialists are the primary source of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) (Mouajou, Adams, DeLisle, & Quach, 2022). The only way to eliminate HAIs transmission risk is to adhere to hand hygiene and proper guidelines established by the hospital management to promote patient safety. Hand hygiene is the cornerstone of preventing infection and one of the most effective strategies for reducing HAIs.
