According to Edelman et al (2018), nurses need to know the theories of human growth and development so that they have a clear understanding of the challenges an individual is likely to encounter as well as the skills the individual is likely to have and/or need for successful growth and development and maturation throughout the lifespan. This knowledge provides nurses with frameworks for health assessment, promotion, and intervention.

 
   

 

 

This growth and development assignment is about planning a birthday party for a 13-year-old boy. The elements that you are assigned to are the “theme” and “goodie bags” (I have already chosen the theme and possible items in the goodie bags, please add on or change any items for the goodie bags to be able to make a rationale). Provide rationales for the theme and items in the goodie bags, incorporating the normal physical, cognitive, and moral developments that occur for a 13-year-old boy.

Rationale for the Theme
Based on the growth and development requirements for 13-year-old boys, Marvel is a good theme because it is current, and it is age-appropriate. Marvel is a good theme because it stimulates imagination and encourages abstract thinking because of the issues being tackled by the characters in the films involved in the universe. Different heroes have different personalities, capabilities, moralities, and the characters from Marvel are very well-represented in terms of diversity. The inclusion of these elements can encourage children like 13-year-old boys to have creative imaginations and it can also help influence and cause good behavior as well as encourage physical activity (Brown et al., 2015). Additionally, Robinson (2014) also notes that superhero characters build positive moral judgements in school children, thus this theme has a good influence in the moral development of the child.
