Specifically, target 6.2, eradicating open defecation and providing universal access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene, is our primary goal to address in our team memo. Indonesia is among the top three countries with the largest burden of open defecation, with an estimated 29 million to 31 million people still using open defecation. High stunting rates are still a problem, and they are related to poor sanitation and untreated drinking water. One of the challenges we face is empowering people and communities to stop open defecation. By monitoring and controlling open defecation using a bottom-up strategy, one attempt to accomplish this is to reduce the prevalence of open defecation practices in the community. Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is the best approach to implementing the WHO Health System Function Building Block (People) to encourage social and behavioral change surrounding open defecation.
