The social contract theory will influence the choice of the design of the new ambulatory care unit. According to this paradigm, the new facility must conform to the already existing set of laws governing the healthcare sector if it must be accepted as an institution. The design ought to acknowledge that the US, as society has already set its understanding of the purpose of healthcare, which is to promote the health and wellbeing of the populace and increase the quality of life of individuals (Hill, 2016). As part of conformity, it would be important to set the limits for state responsibilities and personal rights. 
Pros and Cons of the Social Contract Theory 
           The primary advantage of the chosen paradigm is the fact that it instills civic duty to respect the value of healthcare to society. Importantly, the model of design stipulates the need to balance individual rights and state control on healthcare provisioning. In a broader sense, the team will approach the design process as one that is guided by specific laws that promote respect for state and public interventions in healthcare. Second, the model brings a sense of the possible conflicts of interest that would arise between state control and individual rights.
