Banner Healthcare
Banner Health is amongst the biggest non-profit health systems in America. It operates in seven states. Most of its facilities are situated in Arizona (Hoovers, 2018). This paper provides an assessment of Banner Health’s readiness in addressing the healthcare needs of citizens within the coming ten years. The paper also provides a strategic plan addressing issues that relate to patient satisfaction, network growth, resource management, and nurse staffing. Lastly, Banner Health is compared to Singapore Airlines.
Readiness of Banner Health in Addressing Needs in the next Decade
Banner Health is a healthcare organization that is ready to meet the future health needs. This is evident from its recent overhaul which was aimed at enabling it effectively address health needs over the next 10 years and beyond. Banner Health has mostly been operating using the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) model. An AMC is a university-based hospital and medical school. Such organizations often face significant financial challenges which have been worsened in the recent past by government funding cuts (Wright, 2017). In the past few years, Academic Medical Centres have experienced financial struggles arising out of the fact that the traditional AMC model is not only costly, but also monolithic, difficult to change, and intricate (Wright, 2017).
To meet changing needs and at the same time avert the financial struggles typical in healthcare organizations that use the AMC model, Banner Health recently overhauled itself into a consumer-focused system. It redesigned and restructured its Academic Medical Centre business model. Banner Good Samaritan, for example, was usually a teaching hospital. It was however remodelled as Banner University Medical Centre. The key to the overhaul, as Wright (2017) pointed out, entailed replacing the conventional department model with an Institute Model that consists of centres which have been established around certain conditions. Thirteen specialized care institutes were created that focused on particular conditions like women’s health, lung health, and heart health. Every institute has a few sub-specialty centres.
Each institute has expert medical professionals who provide coordinated care focused on the patient’s individual needs. This enables a patient to get the care they need in only a single location. Every patient is paired with a single point of a contact, who is a nurse navigator. This professional assists in establishing the care journey of a patient (Wright, 2017). Overall, the overhaul now enables Banner Health to be well-positioned to adequately address future health needs in the next decade. Through the overhaul, it has prepared itself to meet future needs. Not only does it have a better business model now, but it is also well-equipped and has the necessary staffs to help address future needs in a satisfactory manner.
Strategic Plan for Banner Health
At the moment, Banner Health operates twenty-eight acute-care hospitals with an estimated 4,000 beds. It has presence in 7 states, including Wyoming, Nebraska, Arizona, Alaska, Nevada, Colorado and California. The organization has a gr...
