This paper will be based on oral contraceptives, focusing on Apri, a birth control pill. This medication has a combination of progestin and estrogen hormones, which help prevent pregnancy (Loaeza-del-Castillo et al., 2008). When prescribing Apri pills, every health worker must consider the patient’s region since limiting pregnancy is perceived differently based on cultural practices. For instance, Catholics believe using any contraception is against their religion (Loaeza-del-Castillo et al., 2008). However, the Quran does not prohibit birth control. On the other hand, in Judaism, some contraceptives are allowed, including pills that control birth.
Before prescribing Apri pills, medical practitioners must also consider whether their clients have factor V Leiden, an inherited defective gene. Patients with this gene who use Apri risk blood clots.
