Mr. Wilko is a 40-year-old salesperson with a wife and three teenage children. He has recently begun to have a beer at lunch and a few drinks after work to reduce his work-related stress. An economic downturn in the housing industry has reduced the need for new home appliances and his income and sales record has been affected. Several other salespeople have been laid off at his firm. He has been told that if his sales and attendance records do not improve he will be fired. He and his wife are constantly arguing about finances and the children's increasing demands for money. His drinking has increased to several beers at lunch and continued drinking after dinner. When he returns to work with alcohol on his breath, he is dismissed from his job. He continues to consume alcohol during the day as he attempts a job search. His wife is very concerned, as are his teenage children.

Accuracy of Mr. Wilko Assessment:
Mr Wilko assessment about himself are not accurate. For me, a social drinker is not someone who drinks several beers at lunch and keeps on drinking more after work. I would say, Mr Wilko is not satisfied with himself, his job and household environments. Many alcoholics are known to deny their issues and find a solution through drinking. Many times, they argue that they can control their drinking behaviours and that they can stop drinking anytime they feel like (Callinan, 2017). However, the truth of the matter is a drinking, like other addiction is hard to stop. Mr. Wilko cannot control his drinking and that is why he is fired from work as a result of excessive drinking while at work. After being laid off, he continues to drink as he look for another work. This shows that that he does not have control over the drinking situation. His drinking habit is interfering with his day-to-day functions which ended up affecting his family too.
Stressors present in Mr. Wilko's case
The drinking problem facing Mr. Wilko is not a new concept. Economic hardship are affecting almost everyone in the society. As a result of economic changes, Mr Wilko experienced a reduction in his household income. These changes make it difficult for him to sustain his family. Financial issues are the major stressors for many people with families. One of the Mr.Wilko stressors is family responsibility. Having a large family with children can be hectic, more so, for low income earners. In addition, the economy and how it has affect employment and household income can stress individuals. Mr.Wilko also feared to be laid off from work. Some of his colleagues had been sent home due to low productivity.
